Experience Authentic Himachali Life at The Jobless Wanderer's Home
We built our home with utmost love and hard work, preserving the Himachali heritage through architecture as well as self-sustaining methods such as farming.
The desire to live in a distant but peaceful place was always the goal. Along with it was important to be able to grow our own food organically. Hence, our lives revolve around maintaining the local as well as our native cultures through cuisine and lifestyle. Our 5 doggies- Badal, Bijlee, Chaychay, Ravina & Maiguel makes for perfect mountain friends one can ask for. They accompany us to all outdoor activities such as hiking, cooking in the wilderness, etc.
It gives us joy to share a slice of our life and hence, we host like-minded people from all over the world.
About the space
The house
Ours is a traditional Himachali home, made of deodar, stones & mud, surrounded by a 360-degree view of the greater Himalayas. We live in an acre of farmland with our 8 dogs.
Earlier a homestead to a local king, the base of our home is nearly 150 years old! Sat atop perching on a commanding angle, the spectacular views all around justifies the location astutely.
If your definition of luxury includes breath-taking views of mountains with colourful skies, hiking with mountain dogs and eating home grown/homemade meals, you couldn’t find a better place than ours! We also have excellent internet connectivity.
The location
Our property is located at the top of Tandi village and is the last house, bordering a giant pine wood forest as our backyard.
The kilometer long hike to reach our place would make sense to our guests, we promise! (the place might not be ideal for minors and senior citizens because of it's landscape)
More about The Jobless Wanderer, Tandi
Tandi is a beautiful small village nestled in the folds of mountains that provide aplenty to us all. A tightly knit community with their own culture and lifestyle, we live amongst them as one. It gives our guests to witness and experience the local Himachali culture and lifestyle very closely. This is also to highlight that our daily routines are maintained similar to the community we live in through fixed meal timings. Loud noises, music and anything disturbing to our environment is HIGHLY DISCOURAGED, hence.
Renovated from scratch with much love and care, we are accommodating with 1 double bedroom and 1 single room. Our bathroom is shared.
As said earlier, our meals are homemade and fixed timely. Having said that, ours is a diverse palette and we cook a wide array of cuisines ranging from Shahi Biryanis to authentic North Eastern! We also bake bread, cakes, muffins and much more!
Since our terrain is that of rocky mountainous, an altitude change of air is to be expected at first and running shoes are to be STRICTLY AVOIDED. Trekking/hiking shoes are ideal. We also witness 5 different seasons in a year and hence, we advise our guests to be informed about their season of arrival in order TO DRESS ACCORDINGLY.
We love and practice visual arts, enjoy good music from different genres and appreciate art and artists whole heartedly. Overall expect a raw mountain life with serenity, solitude, peace and amazing views; accompanied by good food, lovely company and endless conversations about everything under the sky!
Our home and it's environment is chill and friendly to anyone comes here with an open mind. Specially we make sure the environment is perfect for couples, LGBTQ+, any solo female individuals.
PLEASE NOTE: It is our home and not a luxury property like cottages & hotels so please understand the amenities and limitations we have described in detail. We live amongst nature and invite our guests to share our lives with, in harmony and respect. Please do not expect any sort of service. We expect and practice self service at our place.
We also provide Day hikes to nearby forest with our 2 dogs, Badal and Bijli, which includes cooking and eating like nomadic way with basic ingredients yet very yumm with an extra fair price.
My place has 360 degree views of Greater himalayas like Pir panjal range and Greater Himalayan peaks like, Bunga, Thini etc. Lambri top 3590m, Jalori pass etc. totally visible from our bedroom. To reach our place you need to hike about 1km uphill. There are so many thing to see and experience Hence it's not justify if you visit for less than 2 nights. Also make sure you reach the village before dark. Else during dark it's not advisable to walk into the hilly terrain. We would love to share some amazing story about the place, culture and some beautiful moment over dinner. We would also take you to the nearby hiking trails or a walk into the village.
