Volunteer with Us

We are always looking for volunteers to help!

Our Story

The house of Jobless Wanderers was conceptualised with the intention of building a home with a space to farm seasonal vegetables. Imbibing oneself into the geography and climate has been crucial to living the rather peaceful and solitary life in the mountains. This didn’t happen overnight, obviously but rather over time-slowly yet steady. Understanding local culture and building a home amidst it all, consistent efforts and committed intentions laid the foundational energy of our home.

As we live at the top most part of the village, everything we require to sustain is manually brought a km from the main road up. Therefore mindful consumption and planned work ethics ensure we do not run short of our needs as the nearest market is 8km downhill from our village. Hence, it isn't the same as living with access to shops/goods at any given time requiring the awareness of every house requirement, from spice rack to toilet paper.

Besides the house, our farmland is a manageable 1 acre with seasonal vegetables grown round the year. Here, sowing, weeding, watering and picking are the primary chores that need a helping hand. An understanding of basic gardening, learning with the patience and intention to care for plants is all that is required of us as we only produce for our own. There aren't any labor intensive chores in our farming but we do insist on having consistency that is required to grow any kind of plants. We also have some seasonal flowers but the abundance of the wild ones in the forest behind our house, is definitely prettier!

Having personal experiences of hosting, our home was opened to guests with the sole intention of sharing a slice of our mountain life with like-minded travellers around the world. Sharing the idea of living and eating in the same house as us, we curated experiences of interests within our personal lifestyle. Like having family dinners with us or hiking on our backyard jungle with our dogs, authentic food experiences or simply enjoying living like us! Thus from receiving guests from the parking to guiding them on hikes, a helping hand is often required and appreciated.

Absence of micromanaging

We are a community of adults working together therefore it is expected of involved parties to be capable of completing their assigned chores without the need for micromanaging by another member.

Self-reliance

Mindfulness

Personal Interest

There is no labour intensive work in the house and everybody is tasked according to their strength and expertise. Therefore it is expected of everyone to complete their share of work without delegating it to another person or time.

As it is our home, maintenance of hygiene or aiding in updating inventories becomes a part of mindful living because as mentioned earlier the logistics of living in mountains require a collective effort to maintain.

While it sounds romantic to live where we do, each of us contribute our share of work not for the sake of it but rather because we want to. For it takes commitment which derives from personal interests to live here with us.

We believe we are blessed to be living in the literal lap of nature that so many people could only desire. However there is a community of efforts and coordinated work environment that helps us sustain our life here in the mountains. We value the importance of every effort that goes into uninterrupted continuance of our life both individually and as hosts hence we stress upon specific requirements of volunteering with us as below:
